UAE’s Zayed Charity Run reaches Ethiopia with Dh150,000 prize pool
This initiative has raised over $173 million for global causes
ABU DHABI – From Abu Dhabi to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, the Zayed Charity Run is extending its humanitarian footprint, reinforcing the UAE’s long-standing commitment to global charitable work.
The announcement marks a new chapter for one of the country’s most prominent initiatives, blending sport with philanthropy while promoting unity across cultures.
Scheduled for this Sunday, the event will take place at Meskel Square at 7:00 AM, offering participants a platform that goes beyond competition.

The Addis Ababa edition continues the run’s expansion across international borders, building on a movement that has already drawn more than 700,000 participants worldwide. Over the years, the initiative has raised over $173 million, supporting healthcare and humanitarian causes in multiple countries. Its arrival in Ethiopia highlights growing ties between the UAE and host nations, while reinforcing a shared commitment to community welfare.
All proceeds from the run will be channelled through the Emirates Red Crescent to the Children’s Heart Fund Ethiopia, ensuring direct support for critical healthcare services. The event also introduces a competitive edge, with prize money totalling Dh150,000 allocated for participants.
Event details
The race will feature 50 runners from the UAE, who are set to depart on May 1 in preparation for the event. Their participation underscores the international nature of the initiative, which continues to attract diverse communities under a unified purpose.
Organisers have also scheduled a press conference on May 1, attended by senior officials including Lt. General (r) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi and Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei.
Guided by its “Run for Kindness” message, the initiative promotes values of giving and volunteerism, while encouraging cultural exchange and inclusivity. It has evolved into a global platform where sport becomes a vehicle for humanitarian outreach, strengthening bonds between nations.

Launched in honour of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Run remains rooted in his legacy of generosity and global solidarity.
